The United Kingdom's Association for Project Management (APM), has appointed David Pells, influential Editor of PMForum as an Honorary Fellow. He joins a select band of individuals who have made significant contributions to the discipline of Project Management.

In recent years, APM has expanded its selection of candidates so that overseas candidates are considered too. Pells, pictured left, received his award from APM President Dr Martin Barnes CBE at the APM Awards night in London. David joins Russell Archibald as an APM Honorary Fellow: both are also PMI Fellows.

Honorary Fellowship of APM recognises individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of the project and programme profession through one, many or all of the following methods:

•  Developed a useful new component of project management technique (e.g. governance, risk management).
• Built up a distinctive achievement in project management education (e.g. an acknowledged leading university course in project and programme management).
• Successfully managed a particularly large, complex and / or difficult project (e.g. Channel Tunnel Rail Link / HS1).
• Initiated, conducted and completed a substantial body of useful published research in project management.
• Been responsible for introducing project management into a new area of application and making it work.

In all, four Hon Fellows received their award in London in October. In addition to David were (left to right) Dr Ed Hoffman of NASA APM President Dr Martin Barnes, Adrian Dooley, long time member of APM's Council and key member of the Professional Board and Sir Robert Walmsley KCB, who as head of the Ministry of Defence's Procurement Executive transformed it into the Defence Procurement Agency.
